The Patrol Division is under the command of Captain Scott Stormont. Captain Stormont was born and raised in Emporia. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from Emporia State University and an Associate's Degree from Butler County Community College. Stormont has served with the Emporia Police Department for 24 years, beginning his career as a Patrolman in 1997, moving to Narcotics Officer in 2009, Sergeant in 2012, Lieutenant in 2017, and presently Captain.

Captain Stormont is supervisor for one patrol lieutenant, four patrol sergeants, and 28 patrol officers. With a number of specialty areas, including Special Tactical Response Commander, Firearms Instructor (Range Master), and Bike Patrol, Stormont is well qualified to lead the division.

Stormont's great-grandfather, David Pierce Cowan served as the Lyon County Sheriff from 1906 to 1910 and as the Emporia Police Chief from 1929 to 1930.

"I am proud to call Emporia home. I have enjoyed serving the citizens of Emporia for the past 24 years alongside some of the finest men and women in law enforcement."
