Captain Lisa Hayes is the Commander of the Investigations Division. Captain Hayes began her career with the Emporia Police Department as an Animal Control Officer in 1998 and became a Patrol Officer in 2000. In 2005, Hayes was promoted to Detective and worked in the Investigations Division until she was promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant in 2012. She served as the department's Administrative Sergeant from 2014 to 2021.
She is from Melvern, KS and holds a degree from Allen County Community College, with additional education from Emporia State University. Hayes has lived in the Emporia area for 23 years. She is married and has one daughter and two bonus sons. Hayes is passionate about family and serving the Emporia community.
The Investigations Division is commanded by a Captain and consists of three full-time detectives, two investigators, two narcotics investigators and one civilian property/evidence technician. The Investigations Division is responsible for most felony crimes and works closely with county, state and federal agencies to maximize their ability to reduce crime and solve cases. Additional duties include processing crime scenes and assisting the city and county prosecutor with the preparation of cases for prosecution within the court system.
