The Community Corrections Board is a State mandated program (K.S.A. 75-4317 through 75-4320) which was established in the fall of 1989 by the Kansas State Board of Corrections. Lyon County and Chase County jointly, as the 5th Judicial District, established the local Community Corrections Board in August 1990. The board will consist of 13 members: 3 appointed by the City Commission, 3 appointed by the County Commission, 2 appointed by Chase County, 1 Sheriff, 1 Police Chief, 1 County Attorney, and 2 Administrative Judges.

Members serve a two-year term. Board members must reside in Lyon County or Chase County.

The primary goal of the board is to prevent incarceration in state institutions of certain adult and juvenile offenders by providing the courts with additional sentencing options locally available.
