Yesterday afternoon, Emporia Police began investigating multiple cases involving narcotics, firearms, forgery, shoplifting, theft and identity theft.
Two people were taken into custody around 5:30pm on Thursday; 27-yearold Deshawn Hammond and 33 year old Kayla Stokes, both of Wichita, KS. Both were booked into the Lyon County Detention Center on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Theft and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. Stokes was booked on an additional charge of Forgery. Formal charges are pending through the Lyon County Attorney’s Office.
The investigation continued into today (Friday) and led to the execution of a search warrant at 724 Wilson St. shortly after 1:30pm. The Emporia Police Department utilized their Special Response Team to execute the warrant. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Hwy Patrol also assisted. One person in the residence surrendered and cooperated. A second person in the residence, Alexander Rose, 34 of Wichita, barricaded himself and surrendered an hour later when a police K9 was to be deployed. Rose was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant through the Kansas Department of Corrections.
Emporia Police responded to 724 Wilson St. in June of 2023 on a separate incident. The June incident involved a 4-hour barricaded subject. The June and today’s incidents were successfully resolved by local law enforcement without serious injury.
