Peyton Street Watermain Improvements Project Update

Beginning the week of December 26, 2023, the City’s contractor began construction of the South Avenue portion of the Peyton Street Watermain Improvements Project between Peyton Street and Carter Street. Traffic on South Avenue was one-way for east bound traffic along that portion of the project.

Beginning the week of February 5, 2024, the City’s contractor will begin connection of the existing city mains on 9th Avenue and 7th Avenue to the new Peyton Street water main. This will temporarily impact traffic at 9th Avenue and 7th Avenue intersections at Peyton Street. This construction is expected to last up to two (2) weeks.

The ongoing Peyton Street Water Main Improvements Project consists of new water main along 12th Avenue from Topeka Street to Peyton Street, along Peyton Street from 12th Avenue to 6th Avenue, and along South Avenue from Peyton Street to Carter Street.

During the project, there will be the following traffic impacts:

  1. Along Peyton Street (within the project), one-way traffic will be southbound only, with a signed Peyton Street truck route detour.
  2. Along South Avenue (within the project), one-way traffic will be eastbound only.
  3. Truck detours will be in effect during phases of the project.

At times, the City’s contractor will make new watermain and service line connections that will temporarily impact residential and commercial water service in the project area.

The City of Emporia would like to thank stakeholders for their patience during these service interruptions as the waterline construction progresses.

The project is expected to last into Spring 2024, weather permitting.

Please, follow all constructio traffic control as posted and find alternate routes if possible.
