Car Accident

On February 11, 2024, at 5:45 PM officers of the Emporia Police Department attempted to stop a gray, 2012 Acura, passenger car to conduct a welfare check. The officer attempted the car stop at 18th and Rural St. The car fled from the officer eastbound on 18th. The officer did not pursue the car. The car continued at a high rate of speed onto Emporia State University campus. The car left the road, went airborne, and crashed into the Emporia State University recreation building. Fortunately, no one was in that area of the building when the car crashed into it. The driver of the car was initially trapped in the car. The driver was extricated from the scene by the Emporia Fire Department. The driver was transported to Newman’s Hospital for care. The driver’s condition is unknown. Due to the nature of this accident, the driver’s identification will not be released to the public.
