STRUCTURE FIRE AT 2230 PRAIRIE STREET
Friday, January 20, 2023, 0933. Units Cleared at 1411
Emporia, Kansas January 20 — Emporia Fire Department was dispatched to 2230 Prairie Street, Emporia, Kansas for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, fire units found smoke exiting from the side of the structure. Rescue was required on second and third floor balconies. Fire originated from basement apartment 2A. The building was evacuated while crews worked to extinguish the fire.
No injuries were reported. One pet was found deceased.
The structure fire was contained and extinguished with multiple hand lines.
The cause is still under investigation.
American Red Cross is assisting residents with housing and medical needs.
