Emporia, Kansas February 1— The City of Emporia staff was presented with a plaque at the 2022 Kansas Ready Mixed Concrete Association Awards Program for the Water Intake Improvements Project on the Neosho River that was completed in the summer of 2022.
The project was designed and inspected by BG Consultants. The City of Emporia along with projects from Sterling, Victoria, and Hutchinson were awarded this distinction at the 56th Annual KAPA-KRMCA convention on January 12, 2023. All state entries will be automatically entered into the American Concrete Institute concrete Construction Awards Program for consideration later this year.
The Raw Water Intake Improvements project was a Federal Emergency Management Agency/Kansas Department of Emergency Management (FEMA/KDEM) project with the City of Emporia that mitigated damages to our raw water dam and intake caused during a flood event in 2019. FEMA/KDEM participation was at 75% / 10% respectively with the City of Emporia share at 15% of the project costs.
The City of Emporia appreciates working cooperatively with outside funding agencies to help solve our infrastructure challenges when such natural events such as flooding occur.
