Emporia, Kansas 23 Feb 2023 — Emporia Fire Department was dispatched to 2910 W 24th Ave. for a reported chlorine leak. The Emporia Fire Department Haz-Mat team was deployed to isolate the valve and monitor the building and surrounding area for any impact to public safety. All safety measures worked appropriately and there was no chlorine exposure outside of the containment building. Water service was uninterrupted and there was no impact to public safety.
The cause was determined to be an accidental release from a faulty valve.
